IOM Launches Global Appeal for 2025

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has launched its Global Appeal for 2025. This worldwide initiative, aligned with IOM’s Strategic Plan (2024-2028), aims to raise USD 8.2 billion to support over 100 million individuals across the globe. As migration dynamics and humanitarian needs continue to evolve, IOM remains committed to addressing these challenges with agility and foresight.

The appeal is structured around three strategic objectives:

First, Saving Lives and Protecting People on the Move This includes delivering multi-sectoral humanitarian aid to 55 million people integrating protection-centred and climate-smart approaches, and enhancing local capacities through the Localization Framework.

Second Driving Solutions for Displacement: IOM will focus on sustainable and durable solutions for 39 million people. This involves community-based planning, resilience-building initiatives, and expanding peacebuilding and stabilization programs to address the root causes of displacement.

Third, Facilitating Pathways for Regular Migration in order  to enhance regular migration pathways, ensuring they are effective and beneficial for migrants and their countries of origin, transit, and destination. This includes supporting labour mobility, resettlement programs, and combating human trafficking and exploitation.

The Global Appeal 2025 is a  comprehensive strategy designed to mobilize resources effectively and ensure IOM can respond proactively to global migration challenges.

Mazen AboulHosn, IOM Chief of Mission in Kuwait, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "The Global Appeal 2025 is a testament to our commitment to addressing the complex challenges of migration and displacement. "Today we are celebrating International Migrants Day. This day gives us a special opportunity to shine a spotlight on the invaluable contributions of millions of migrants around the world. It's also a day for us to highlight the increasingly complex environment in which migration occurs”

He added “With the support of our partners, including countries like Kuwait, we can make a significant impact on the lives of millions of people in need”.

Migrants play critical roles in labour markets, filling skills gaps, driving innovation and entrepreneurship, they  boost economic growth and provide a lifeline to families and communities back home, driving development.
