IOM and Kuwait Ministry of Interior conduct training on ‘The Role of Frontline Police Officers in Combatting Human Trafficking’
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) - UN Migration agency in Kuwait, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior (MoI), successfully conducted a comprehensive one-week training session titled ‘The Role of Frontline Police Officers in Combatting Human Trafficking’, which targeted officers from several departments, including residence affairs, airport security, traffic department, legal affairs, public relation and security media, coast guards, port security, criminal investigation and the Saad Al-Abdullah academy for security sciences.
This initiative is part of an ongoing series of trainings aimed at strengthening efforts to combat human trafficking and enhance the skills of law enforcement officers.
Some of the key topics covered during the training were ‘Indicators for the identification of human trafficking cases’, the ‘National Anti-Human Trafficking Act’ the ‘International criminal law on Trafficking in Persons’ and the ‘National referral mechanism. By aligning their efforts with national and international laws participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the broader socio-economic factors that drive human trafficking. This approach underscores the importance of addressing the issue holistically to effectively combat this global challenge.
“Human trafficking is a complex global challenge that requires collaboration and a deep understanding of both legal frameworks and practical identification strategies,” said Mazen AboulHosn, the IOM Kuwait Chief of Mission. “This training empowered police officers with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively combat this global phenomenon; the training is also aligned with the efforts of the State of Kuwait in the field of combating human trafficking including the work of the national committee on counter trafficking”.
The collaboration between IOM Kuwait and the Ministry of Interior underscores the collective commitment to combatting human trafficking and protecting human rights and emphasize the long-standing partnership between the two institutions.
