Kuwait Hosts Workshop on Managing Temporary Foreign Labour
A five-day orientation course for Kuwaiti government officials and
representatives from the civil society, trade unions and
representatives for the private sector will open on 15 February in
Kuwait City.
The workshop, organized by IOM with funding from the British
Embassy in Kuwait, aims to provide participants with a
comprehensive overview of the foundations of migration management,
with a specific focus on the authority and responsibilities of
states as well as the rights and obligations of mobile populations.
It will also provide a strong basis for improved cooperation and
networking between the Government and civil society.
The course, which will also be open to representatives from
diplomatic representation from sending countries, will be attended
by Mohammed Al-Kindary, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Social
Affairs and Labour.
According to the UN Population Division, up to 1.6 million
foreign workers reside in Kuwait, making up some 65 per cent of the
workforce.
